El Arte Es Más Que Divino

Avanza Tu Vida

Raise Your Altar 1

Empower Yourself

What does it say about you reading an article about raising an altar? Maybe something like this?

Divine expression is worth the time and energy.

No matter what spiritual/religious background you come from, maybe you’ve decided you need that divine communication, or at least you’re thinking about it. And why not?

First, we strongly urge creating a dynamic altar.

A dynamic anything speaks to a living function, a process, something that moves: fast, slow, right, left – like life.

An Altar reflects a belief in a mission and provides the structure, safety and strength for the journey. Again, regardless of your spiritual background, an altar enables you to worship, pray, invoke and evoke. From your altar you can use faith and action to protect and bless your home, relationships and work – healing in various forms.

The Earth is not an easy place to live right now. Human beings have sought spiritual help and favor since we were in caves.

An altar is a place to take a breath, find private time, a setting to discover and develop plans. Raising and maintaining an altar is a group of steps and timing. That group of actions is cultivating sacred space where the practicality and power of an altar comes.

This cultivation begins with simple ritual but builds to real and functional communication with Spirit, be it the Holy Spirit, the Santos, the Buddhas or the Ancestors. That communication, through consistent effort, leads to deeper and stronger ownership of your altar, allowing you greater direction working with the energy of your altar. And that – Energy and Communication – are what altars are all about.

Second, before going forward, if, for any reason, you don’t think you have a right to raise an altar, we need to talk.

The authority to have an altar or a fireplace is written on your heart, in your mind and is standard equipment in your soul.

You have the right, perhaps the obligation, to reach out to whatever you consider divinity. If you choose to follow paths set before you, you have the right; if you want to evolve your own spirituality, you have a right. It’s between you and Creator, about what happens between your birth and death.

A tricky issue, nonetheless, the authority to raise an altar, especially for those of us who grew up believing the world’s religions are the ones who oversee and administer altars, or fireplaces or places and methods of worship.

If you do move forward on raising an altar, this issue of your right and authority will play a major role in your motivation and belief. If you know of the right and apply it, your results will be better than doubting your authority to follow your own spiritual instinct.

If we can be of any assistance to you in finding this authority, click below and ask away.

We’ve been working our altar 30 years, from spreading a bandanna with a few chosen objects to maintaining a full room with all the elements of life represented. We worship, pray, love, learn, heal, get help, give help and from time to time, we make a little magic.

Working with the energy and the matter of the altar, creating a sacred space and applying our time, we focus on creating a functional spirituality for ourselves, family and friends.

Third, our altar is composed of objects – matter – and we apply energy to these objects with prayer, proper use, placement, and so forth. Then we pour mind and spirit into space and time…

Going forward, assuming you’re signed up for emails and are interested, of course:

Raise Your Altar 2: What are the steps to effective Prayer, Invocation and Evocation? Concrete detail and suggestions with a little energy work. Then,

Raise Your Altar 3: How does one communicate with divinity? This begins the minute you put up a table for an altar, but the fine tuning requires a little more knowledge.

If you have the slightest inclination to do something like that, then by all means,

¿Qué Hace Que La Magia Salga Mal?

Buena suerte. Hacer magia con…

Is Bioavailability Spiritual?

Is it Medicine for you?

As per Google search, bioavailability refers to “the proportion of a drug or other substance which enters the circulation when introduced into the body, and so is able to have an active effect.” In other words, it’s about how much medicine/benefit actually reaches our bodies with positive effect.

The need to know how much medicine your body actually receives is clearly an important consideration when a person uses any kind of supplementation, vitamin regimen, weight loss or gain programs and so forth. For us, as you might imagine, the whole health process is a wholistic endeavor – body, heart, will and mind.

The question about bioavailability came up when we discovered the wonders of hemp oil. Short version: it changed our life, helping us walk again. Regarding hemp and CBD, considering how much one gets from an oil vs the benefit from newer methods of delivery, like water soluble, oral, intravenous, etc, is one of the first signs a person is taking her CBD seriously.

If you’re going to pay $150 for a month of CBD or Hemp, do you prefer a quality oil that delivers less than 10% of the benefit, or do you want to pay the same for 50-80% of the benefit? Bioavailability – beware the marketing, but it’s good science.

The same question, of course, comes up for vitamins. You can buy the cheapies at the dollar store, or you can pay triple at the health store. Which one will truly make a difference in your health?  Most of the benefit of the cheapies winds up in the urinal.

For us, at an altar strengthened by the hemp, increased bioavailability means an acceleration of healing – for us and those we serve.

So how is bioavailability a spiritual topic?

First thing: to heal or not to heal is a choice.

When the body is intent on healing the medicine will come. When a person chooses healing over indifference or disbelief, and finds a medicine that helps them stay alive, isn’t that medicine sacred, at least to them? With the effect this little knowledge of bioavailability has had us, it’s gone into our Medicine Bag, sacred.

Second: water is sacred.

Before the words spiritual or sacred existed in any language, our ancestors cared highly for the element of water. Apparently, humans can survive lots of different shortages, but we can’t go without water. That’s certainly a sacred matter.

You and I are born of water and made of water. If we can put good things in that water, we might have a better life. Since we humans are 70%+ water, anything that flows with our water, like water soluble medicine, will hit my body faster and wider.

If that’s not spiritual, and rational, at the same time, then I don’t know what is.

Third: medicine is personal

One of many definitions of the word medicine in Native American thought is, “Anything that brings you closer to what Creator intended for us human beings”.

We don’t want to exclude anyone, so if you’re an atheist, then replace “Creator intended” with “human evolutionary potential.” Pretty close.

Bioavailability is medicine this way, it’s real, you feel it, makes a difference.

Might we have healed without knowing anything about bioavailability? It’s quite possible, healing is what we do, after all, and we have other tools. But this one showed up when we needed an acceleration in our healing. Was it an answer to our intention to heal? Is it sacred?

What’s The Internal Dialogue?

Why Should I Care?

If you’re curious about the “internal dialogue,” you’ve likely been working on meditation and/or focus, or you simply don’t like the thoughts you can’t seem to stop.

Meditators, athletes and singers, for instance, deal with abilities tied directly to breathing. When attempting to concentrate on the breathing or with the breathing, all of us encounter thoughts which block the clarity and intensity of our focus.

Increasing focus poses a challenge and opportunity for human beings.

Anyone, who for whatever reason, has wanted/needed to focus betterknows how difficult that can be. Old, and now unwanted, thoughts break focus every time we try to clear our head of any thoughts, or when we want to zero in on one thought.

The old and unwanted thoughts create a mental conflict known as the internal dialogue, and those old thoughts have nothing to do with thinking.

Thinking is now, it’s focused, it has depth and width and relevance. Thinking leads to knowing.

The internal dialogue is more like a playback of previous events, feelings and memories.

When we consider that it’s not only one thought, but sometimes, literally, hundreds of thoughts that keep playing and playing. You could call it a playlist that won’t let you cut, paste or edit. When it happens on a device, we call it a glitch.

The problem is that the internal dialogue playback doesn’t play the best parts of life, not the highlights and definitely not just the facts. It’s the other stuff, the stuff we don’t like about ourselves, our past, regrettable actions. This playback reflects our doubts and sticks them in our face.

Doubt and fear, judgements running rampant, nagging tasks left undone, not having enough time, frustrated desires, the lie you told the boss – endless list of possibilities playing over and over again. A constant buzz

How does an event in our lives make it onto the internal dialogue playlist?

Events get on the playlist when an event registers deeply, emotionally, spiritually and physically, especially when it is unresolved in some way. You can’t talk about it. You have to lie about it. You never get justice for it.

It makes us wonder if we’re good enough? Have enough? Even when we’re doing Ok.

For instance, is anybody trying to get over jealous thoughts that come, even though you know better already? Same question applies to suspicion, resentments, past abuses. How do we deal with these unwanted thoughts and feelings that never seem to go away?

Concerns, Doubts, Deadlines, Guilt of all kinds, Relationships, Entanglements and Confusions, all of them mutter, mumble and sometimes shout, making their presence known even though they aren’t supposed to count anymore, and always at the wrong time.

Can you imagine if we could stop that noise? How that might improve our focus? Our confidence?

It all starts with observing the internal dialogue for a little time, then acting from strategy.  If you are seeking greater focus, better breathing or more clarity, please watch for our next article on the Internal Dialogue, known in some circles as the Beast. And if you have questions, you know we’re here.

Do Plants Dream?

Who’s Dreaming Who?

The question made me jump when I read it. Our work here deals quite a bit with dreams and plants, each with their own separate shelf, but we really hadn’t thought about that question, at least not exactly in that way.

When one ingests a plant in any way, it is easy to see how, at least biologically, plants can affect one’s dreams. Once working inside our body the plant’s bio-chemical agents contribute to all body function, which of course, among many functions, includes dreaming.

And when ingesting psychoactive plants like psilocybin mushroom, peyote or ayahuasca, the bio-chemical affects relate, almost directly, to our dreaming/mental/resting functions.

If plants dream, what are they dreaming? Do they dream like we do, concerning the matters of their existence? Do plants dream humans, like humans dream other living things?

Creation is where our thinking starts…

If we understand what we’ve experienced and learned, through both myth and science, the rocks were here first, then the plants came, then the animals, then humans.

Dirt and rocks created a position where plants could grow, known as fertile ground. Plants grew in these fertile places and became food for the animals, and eventually, food for the humans. And now,

Where would we be without plants?

Being that we ingest something from the plant world every single day, again, where would we be without plants?

We humans believe that we are the superior life here on Earth, primarily because we have amazing brains and souls. Consider, however that the rocks and plants had to be in place before we humans could even show up. All of which, begs the questions

Do rocks and plants even need brains and souls for them to perform their Earth-walk? We humans certainly can’t operate without brains.

Could it be that rocks and plants connect to an intelligence much larger than our own? An intelligence, perhaps, that we should understand?

Do crystals need brains to power rockets and heal illness?

Do storms and hurricanes ask humans for permission?

Did humans set the seasons, design the trees, or determine where caves should go?

Makes one wonder just how “smart” Mother Nature may be, and just how much of her voice comes through plants. If you own a cat or a dog, you know they dream.Aren’t plants children of the same Mother Nature?

The beliefs that underlie our altar work center around the idea that the Creator is dreaming us, so we, in turn, can dream our creations.

Creator dreamed plants first, for some reason. Can’t plants, then, dream their creations? What do you think? Do Plants dream?

What Makes Magic Go Wrong

Frustrating Believers to No End

Two things, above all, make magic go wrong:

  1. The wrong attachment to the results: wanting it too much, not enough or the wrong way for you, and
  2. Cheating the spell/intention. “Cutting corners” costs in the long run.

The wrong attachment to results can turn a spell upside down. Your words can be right, but if your feelings are too far from what you want, then so are your results. It’s better to feel nothing than feel the wrong thing, better than burning energy up doubting or fretting. Over or under-attachment will get in the way of any magic.

Attachments are mostly how we hold on to our intentions, our goals. We must see our attachment as a tool in our quest.  Having a bat in our hands doesn’t guarantee a home run.

Cheating the spell sours it, too. The ingredients and paraphernalia should always be the best you can muster. For instance, many spells call for wooden matches in the supply list. The temptation to just use a lighter, robs the spell of an ingredient, or some essence of the ingredient.

Another temptation is to drop steps or to do it silently, simply because we don’t see why a certain step is part of the ritual. It’s ok, or better anyway, to substitute steps and ingredients, but we have to remember there’s a science here that they don’t teach in schools.

Inspiration, always, is key, performing each step with the utmost care and dedication, as if you really care. Your best performance, your deepest truth. Even if you’ve got doubts, if you do it with elegance and panache, you will be surprised at the results you’ll bring home. Give it your best, plus a little more.

An important habit, worth developing, as the last action of a ritual or spell: at your last words, turn away from it, walk away and laugh. Laugh the best you can or smile till your cheeks hurt. Simple, maybe silly, but oh, so very strong in sending a spell/prayer/intention out there! Buena suerte. Make magic as you
